Proverbs 30

Today's Proverb is Proverbs 30.  There is a line of a verse in here that always catches my eye and it is in verse 8.  It says "...give me neither poverty nor riches..."  When I read this, the obvious is what always stands out, which is the "riches" part.  It reminds me that God does not call us to have riches.  I know that doesn't mean that if I do have riches I'm doomed, it's just a reminder that I shouldn't seek that.  But the part that stood out to me today was the "poverty" part.  Of course I don't ever want poverty!  But sometimes I think about financial stresses and think "oh well, I don't need to be rich" but what I should be focusing on is that God doesn't want us to live in poverty either.  He wants us to apply ourselves and work hard every day.  He wants us to not have our world revolve around money, whether it's getting more money or suffering because we don't have enough.
One thing that me and Butch are striving to do is be debt free in 10 years (well starting last year so really 9).  We can't put anything on credit, and any extra money that comes in goes towards paying off current debt.  It's not the most fun thing right now, but I just keep thinking about that day when we have no mortgage payments, car payments, school loans, and credit card payments.  Oh what a day that will be!  Now only God knows what's to come in our lives, and more kids or any kind of emergency could add to that 10 years so all we can do is to focus on what's important, and money isn't it!

A Proverb a Day...

I decided I want to write about the Proverb of the day for at least one month.  Last year I was really good about reading a Proverb from the bible every day.  There are 31 Proverbs and, wouldn't you know, the longest month has 31 days!  So today is the 29th so I'm just going to start there.

I just love how Proverbs gives so many short examples of how we all can fall short so easily.  We all have it in us to do the easy thing and to be selfish and foolish, but with the help of God we can make wise decisions and have more concern for the well being of others than ourselves.

Proverbs 29
In this chapter there are 2 verses that really stick out to me.  The first is Proverbs 29:11  - A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.  - I love this because when I'm angry I know how quickly I can turn into a terror.  In the moment I'm thinking "I just need to vent... get it off my chest... even hurt someone back who hurt me..."  It's just easier to yell!  But a wise person will have control.  That is who I want to be. Anyone can yell and give full vent to their anger.  But few can perform control, especially in the midst of chaos.  I don't want to be remembered as a foolish, typical person, but as a wise, loving, person.
The second is Proverbs 29:23  - A man's pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.  This one pretty much speaks for itself.  How many times do I feel like I "deserve" things?  All the time!  I can definitely let my pride feed my heart and my mind and get the best of me at times.  It is when I'm humble that I notice the bigger results.  This is especially true in marriage!  I don't know very many husbands or wives who are okay with their spouse demanding of them because they "deserve" it.  It's in those humble moments of putting our pride aside and giving to the other that reap the most rewards.

Christmas in July

I just couldn't wait so I'm putting up a sneak peak! Now only 181 days until Christmas :)  I am going to start my shopping EARLY this year!! I will update you on some ideas I have for gifts as they come but here are a few that can be found at Hobbly Lobby, Kirkland Home or any craft store really (Joann, Michael's) as well as your everyday Target and Wal-Mart:

-Apron (for girls from toddler to Grandma) - Also a great gift for couples and newlyweds! (Coordinating guy/girl aprons)
-Serving Set - Kirkland Home has these for like $8 each and they come with super cute napkins, a cutting board and cheese knife)
-Candles - Really you can't go wrong here!  Holiday scented candles are great for everyone!
-Movie night gift basket - These are awesome family gifts! Give them to neighbors, cousins, friends, whoever.  Buy one or two $5 movies from Wal-Mart or Target and fill the rest of the basket with candy, popcorn, and a leader of soda! (Baskets are under $4 at Wal-Mart)
-Movie theater gift certificates
-Coffee gift basket - Get the coffee mugs from a craft store and you can find monogrammed ones (people love monogrammed things because it lets them know that you bought the gift just for them specifically) and add a bag of ground coffee and some biscotti, and if you really want to fill it in get some cute coasters!
-A great simple gift is a cute cookie jar filled with some yummy cookies
-A clear vase filled with candy canes or mints (red and white mints) and two tones of green ornaments at the bottom is a fun little gift

Ok I will have much, much more to come!! As you can see I get in the holiday spirit pretty early on in the year, but what can I say, I just LOVE Christmas!  I can get all of my shopping out of the way early then when Christmas time comes it makes it so much easier to really enjoy it and to focus on the celebration of Jesus' birth which, after all, is the true meaning of Christmas!

Loving Life

I'm LOVING the stage that Addy is in right now!

She's crawling (although prefers scooting much more), and laughing a LOT, and copying - or at least trying to copy - just about everything we do.  I know that I am blessed to have these days home with her.  Not to mention she'll be 9 months next week!! Where has the time gone?! I can't imagine her being a year old but I know it will be here in the blink of an eye.  It still amazes me that she is my baby and every day I'm reminded of how incredibly lucky I am to have her.  Me and Butch can't get enough of her!  We still enjoy looking forward to those date nights though :)

As for my sewing update, I wish sometimes that I could turn off my passion for it so that I can just relax and enjoy the day.. but I can't.  I truly, even in the midst of the lack of sleep and the time crunches, love what I do.  I feel like I have the best customers on Etsy and when I get those repeat customers who keep coming back it makes me know that there are some moms out there who really appreciate what I make for there little girls.
My passion is coming up with designs that you can't go out and buy for $10 and have every other baby wearing, but to make those unique custom-made looks.... and it is not easy!  But my goal is to make 3 new dresses a week, I don't know how or if I will do it but I'm gonna try!
